A native of Ohio, John was raised in South Bend, Indiana and returned to Indiana in 2005. John joined the international; Washington, DC based Hogan & Hartson in 1988 and has worked primarily on litigation matters involving education law and civil rights issues for the last 25 years. He became a partner in the firm in 1996. The firm merged with another international firm based in London in 2010 and became Hogan Lovells. Prior to joining Hogan, John served as a law clerk to The Honorable Patricia M. Wald, who was then serving as Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He has a J.D., Order of the Coif, Northwestern University School of Law, 1987 and B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, University of Notre Dame, 1984.

John currently continues his work as part of Hogan Lovells' education group. He handles litigation matters, administrative proceedings, negotiations and counseling for public school districts, universities, educational associations and education-related businesses.
