The project I chose was to help parents and children of the preschool age become aware of healthy eating through a learning garden. With the help of Girl Scout leaders and parents we planned the location of the garden and prepared it for planting. We chose to grow green beans, carrots, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
At the end of the summer, the teacher will incorporate the garden in her lesson plan. They will talk about the vegetables, healthy eating, and will actually harvest the produce. The preschool will continue the learning garden and provide funds in the future for the seeds and plants. They will continue to get parent volunteers to help out. They said they will add the cost to their annual budget, so they can continue educating the children of their preschool on healthy eating habits.
